About us
The South London Orthodox Community which was established in January 2003 with the blessing
and encouragement of the late Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh (1914-2003). It is part of the worldwide Orthodox Church, being part of, the
Deanery of Great Britain and Ireland , of the Exarchate of Parishes of the Russian Tradition in Western Europe,
under the Episcopal oversight of Archbishop Gabriel of Comana,
within the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Our parish is twinned with the Parish of the Holy Trinity in Paris, France. www.crypte.fr
and is also a member of the Churches Together in Clapham (CTiC).
Over the last few years we have welcomed some 300 souls to our services, of whom approximately
80 gather on any given Sunday. We are a mix of nationalities - American, British, Bulgarian, Canadian, Cypriot, Dutch,
Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Irish, Lebanese, New Zealand, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, South African and Ukrainian. The services
are celebrated mainly in English, with some prayers in a Church Slavonic and Greek.
We currently celebrate the Divine Liturgy twice a month, on the second and fourth Sunday,
with the Vigil on the previous evening. We are also celebrating an increasing number of church feasts:
this year we have introduced more of the Lenten services, as well as celebrating as many of the Holy Week
services as was feasible. We always assemble for a light "bring-and-share" lunch after the Liturgy, so that
everyone in the Community can get to know each other better.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who have given so freely
and with such generosity. We are also grateful to all the tax-payers in our community who
have given under the Gift Aid scheme. Please continue to give!
We are confident that our community will go from strength to strength,
and are looking to the future with a very real sense of purpose and excitement.
Please come and worship with us whenever you can. This is the greatest possible
contribution you can make to the life of our community. We would always be grateful for your
prayers so that with God's grace we may continue to serve his people in the area.
